An exploration of the challenges, regulations and concerns IT departments face will be paired with a discussion of the many educational benefits of online, Web 2.0, collaborative learning. 11:15 am - 12:00 pm - The State of Web Application Security
Presented by: Grant Murphy, Vice President of Enterprise Solutions, Barracuda Networks

It's no secret that more and more commerce is being conducted via Web applications. Web-based applications are convenient for consumers and allow vendors to get applications online quickly to reach those consumers. This trend has also created a variety of privacy and security concerns that affect all companies transacting business over the Web. Recently, Barracuda networks co-sponsored a research study conducted by the Ponemon Institute titled "The State of Web Application Security" that revealed that these concerns are keenly felt by web application administrators. However, a major disconnect exists as appropriate countermeasures to these threats are either ineffective or completely non-existent. Join us for an informative seminar to learn:

* More about our revealing research,
* Why Web applications are under attack,
* What hackers are doing to compromise Web applications
* How to mitigate this risk

AWE's products immerse children in an extremely rich environment where the content is always engaging and challenging, the technology is appropriate and reliable, and the administration and assessment system is easy for adults to use and understand.  Educators have long understood that young children achieve high degrees of mastery when they can follow their own interests (self-directed learning), when they are driven by their internal experience of accomplishment (intrinsic motivation), and when the level of challenge is just right. AWE's goal is to create technology products that immerse children in an engaging and challenging, child-safe, “learn how to learn” environment where the technology is appropriate and reliable, and the assessment system is easy for educators to use and understand.  AWE believes in the power of learning and strives to inspire every child to become a lifelong learner. Its vision is to create products that help children learn and are easy to manage.  Learn more about us at  www.awelearning.com

We’ve made some progress along the way. But whatever we’ve accomplished, we recognize the wisdom in Alexander Pope’s observation. We can’t stop at a little; there is so much more to do. Tens of millions of students still don’t even have the chance to go to school. Many more fall behind or drop out of education completely, as adults languish without the skills to realize their dreams. Our goal is to reach these people, and to help them reach their potential . . . to make more of their lives through learning. We are as interested in helping people learn outside school as inside; from basic education to workable skills. And like our customers, we’ve found that the learning itself can be as valuable and enjoyable as the knowledge it gives us. So wherever we see Pearson, that’s why we remind ourselves that we are – and we hope to help others to be – always learning. Learn more about us at www.pearson.com
